Chankura
About

Built for the questions your financial advisor won’t model for free.

Chankura is an independent financial scenario engine for South Africa. We build calculators that do real maths — amortisation schedules, IRR estimates, bracket-aware tax modelling — and show you the working, not just the headline number.

Why we built this

South Africa has some of the most complex personal-finance decisions in the world: dual property markets with completely different yield profiles, a tax system with multiple overlapping incentives (RA, TFSA, Section 13sex), and an energy crisis that changes the ROI on solar every year load-shedding hours fluctuate.

Most South Africans make these decisions from gut feel, a single advisor’s spreadsheet, or marketing material from someone who profits from the outcome. We wanted a neutral, always-updated, freely accessible model that anyone could stress-test.

How the maths works

Every calculator uses monthly amortisation — not annual shortcuts. The rentvesting engine, for example, runs a 240-month (20-year) schedule for both the owner and the rentvestor, credits the cheaper strategy’s monthly surplus into an opportunity portfolio, and compares final net worth at horizon. No hidden assumptions.

The tax engine applies 2026 SARS brackets, the 27.5%/R350k RA cap, TFSA annual and lifetime limits, and Section 13sex at 5% of qualifying residential property cost — exactly as SARS specifies.

What we are not

  • Not financial advisors. Nothing on this site constitutes financial advice. Our tools produce estimates based on the inputs you provide and the macro assumptions in the model. Real decisions require a licensed professional who understands your full picture.
  • Not affiliated with any product. We may include affiliate links to financial products (like EasyEquities or Satrix) where relevant. These are disclosed and never influence the calculator results.
  • Not a substitute for a tax practitioner. The tax calculator models the 2026 SARS framework but cannot account for your specific deductions, medical credits, or emigration status.
